**World Children's Day: Join the Movement to Create a Brighter Future for Every Child**
October is a special month for children all around the world. It's a time to celebrate the progress we've made in protecting and promoting the rights of every child, and to recognize the work still to be done. Since 1954, the United Nations has dedicated two days on November 20 to celebrate World Children's Day – what was previously called Universal Children's Day – to mark the adoption of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child.
Just think for a moment, what would you want for your own child or your community? Children everywhere deserve the same chances and opportunities, so they can grow up happy and healthy. But did you know that millions of children around the world are still denied these basic rights? Poverty, inequality, and injustice hold them back.
As we celebrate World Children's Day, we shine a light on the progress for young people around the world. Children are speaking out, scaling up and pushing for change. In 2022,
* 2 in 5 boys and 1 in 5 girls in developing countries are married before age 18
* 15 countries still allow child marriage below the age of 10 years
* More than 143 million children are out of school
