Halifax dad reflects on 3,000-mile Atlantic row raising £250k for …

🌊✨ Hey everyone! Have you ever heard about someone rowing across the ocean? Well, let me tell you about an amazing dad named Matthew from Halifax. He took on "The World's Toughest Row," which is a 3,000-mile journey across the Atlantic Ocean. And guess what? He finished it with his team called Team Graft! 🚣‍♂️ They started from the Canary Islands on December 11th and arrived in sunny Antigua after 39 days, 16 hours, and 27 minutes. That's a super long adventure!

During their journey, they faced some intense challenges. Sometimes, there were big storms and even a scary moment when a marlin—a fish with a pointy nose!—pierced their boat's hull. But Matthew and his team didn't give up! Out of 38 teams, they finished in 4th place. That's really impressive! 🐟⚡

But rowing wasn't the only thing special about this journey. Matthew and his team wanted to help families who have kids with serious illnesses. So, they decided to raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charities UK. In the end, they collected nearly £250,000! That money will pay for over 8,300 nights' stay for families at the charity's houses. How amazing is that? It's a big help for families who need a place to stay when their kids are in the hospital. ❤️🏥

Of course, while Matthew was out there on the ocean, it wasn't easy for his family at home. His daughter Olivia and wife Steph missed him a lot. But they had help from their community, and that made a big difference. Matthew talked to his family every day using satellite calls, and those chats kept him going. It showed him just how important family is, and he felt thankful for all the support they got. 👪🌟

This adventure wasn't just about rowing across the Atlantic. It was about showing how strong love, family, and community can be. Matthew was really grateful for all the support he received during his journey, and he's super proud of what they achieved together.
